“Promoting culture technologies with low environmental impact and a greater economic efficiency of production achieved”
For years, through activities, Bioterra Association has supported the development of organic farming. This year has been approved for implementing the project "Promoting culture technologies with low environmental impact and a greater economic efficiency of production achieved", financed by the World Bank and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) by the Technical Unit of the Competitive Grants Scheme (UTSCG). The activities of the project are a continuity of the organic farming endorsement actions, action which is a statutory obligation to Bioterra Association.
Objectives
The main objective of the project is research, testing and demonstration of several modern means and methods of fertilization and diseases and pests control, as regards the implementation and dissemination of some finest technological solutions of production, processing and marketing.
Activities
Depending on the needs existing in the country regions foreseen for the implementation of the project: North - West, Central, North-East and South-East, were designed 5 types of activities which, through the presented example to come to sustain householders who want to go to practice organic farming.
Activity 1. Establishment of demonstration plots
This activity concerns three sectors: 6 demonstration plots for plant crops, build 3 storage tanks for urine and construct a platform for composting.
Activity 2. Information campaign on organic farming
The information campaign will take place in three phases: seminars, training and an international Conference.
ØGiven the fact that in rural areas the access to new information is limited in most cases only to the electronic media, and information is more or less understand, were planned 20 themes relating to organic farming that will be explain in 20 seminars and 6trainings, by lecturers and advisors in the field.
ØFor farmers who have switched to organic farming practice will be organized a Romanian and foreign Organic Farmers Conference. The goal is that those involve in the organic farming sector can meet to exchange ideas in order to promote their products etc..
Activity 3. Organizing exchanges of experience
ØWill be organized 5 study visits in the country, on demonstration plots, platform for composting and urine storage tanks, when it can sees the positive effect of the solutions proposed in the draft, with a view to training the farmers and multipliers regarding the implementation of plants culture technologies in the ecological system and management of liquid waste from livestock farms. The visits will take place at: demonstration batch Sãlard (Jud Bihor), demonstration batch Salonta (Jud Bihor), demonstration batch Stefan cel Mare - Calarasi, demonstration batch of Floresti (Cluj county) and demonstration batch Cefa (Jud Bihor).
ØWill be organized 2 study visits out of the country: a visit to model farm in Hungary and a visit to model farms in Austria, with the aim to underline several models of good practice for organic farming and to provide to the new organic farmers the possibility to establish contacts important for the selling of the products produced in their farms.
Activity 4. Promoting organic products
ØAs regards the fact that organic products must be trade, will be organize the participation of some farmers, at the international fair "BIOFACH" (Nuremberg Messe). Here farmers will be able to observe trends in the field of organic farming worldwide.
Activity 5.Editing, printing and dissemination of information materials, making documentary films and improve the web page
Dissemination of all technical and scientific information necessary to the farmers for sustainable and efficient cultivation of the agricultural land will be done through a modern system of information, specific with leaflets, magazine and website.
Achievements
The project was approved in April this year, which made possible start of the above mention activities. So far took place the following activities: demonstration plots establish, seminars, building a urine storage tank and visit a demonstration batch.
Activity 1. Establishment of demonstration plots
- were established 4 demonstration plots of those listed above, namely: lots of Sãlard, Cefa, Rosiori, Floresti
- Until now was build a single urine tank storage, being covered with timber over which are stored solid wastes. The activity was held at the farm of Sãlard, Bihor county
Activity 2.1 Seminars organisation
Were organized 3 seminaries into the following localities: Gilău (county Cluj) - July 1, Timisoara (county Timis) - July 3, Belis (county Cluj) - by July 9. Seminars attended by a total of 62 people who have watched with interest the topics addressed, which emerges from questionnaires completed at the end of each seminar.
Activity 2.3 International Organic Farmers Conference
Conference held in October 25-26, with 220 participants from Romania and another 8 European countries took the following themes: “Quality of agricultural food products and environmental factors influence".
The exhibition of organic food products held during the conference enabled the participants to the conference to know directly and to taste the main organic products: milk and dairy products (sheep and cattle), honey bees and apiculture products, wine, eggs, vegetables, fruit, flour and pasta.
The participants were able to chat with producers and have a useful exchange of experience.
Activity 3. Organizing exchanges of experience
On 20 of June 2008 was organized the first of visits planned for this project. The visit was at Luna de Sus (county Cluj) at the farm own by Albert Imre. The purpose of the visit was visiting batch demonstration, from Luna de sus - Cluj county.
On 29 of July was organized another visit at Salard (county Bihor). Here the visitors are visited the sunflowers batch demonstration and the basin of urine.
On 30 of July was organized the visit at Rosiori (county Bihor).
